FAQ
Q. What is Haddington Weather?
A. Haddington Weather is a website providing weather data and forecasts for East Lothian's county town. It is strictly unofficial and the data/forecasts produced are not 100% accurate.
Q. Are you on any social media websites?
A. Yes, the site is on Twitter (@HaddingtonWx). The feed is updated daily
Q. What do you use to compose your forecasts?
A. I use the GFS (Global Forecast System) weather model available at netweather.tv intermixed with forecasts and observations from the Met Office, XCweather and many other official outlets.
Q. How does a Weather Model work?
A. A weather model works by taking observations from weather stations, satellites, ships, moored buoys, aircraft etc and running them through a supercomputer. The supercomputer then produces a forecast for the days ahead based on expected conditions. The GFS is updated 4 times each day.
Q. What type of weather station are you using?
A. Please see the station information page.
Q. What is you favourite type of weather?
A. I enjoy hot summer days, thunderstorms and wintry weather.
Q. Do you use any particular weather station software?
A. Originally I used the built in Sinus software that comes with the TFA Nexus weather station. After many errors and software glitches I have now decided to switch to Weather Display.
Q. Why have you added an Astronomy page?
A. Astronomy is a rather fascinating pastime and along with weather, a hobby of mine. I thought I would share astronomical knowledge with those visiting the site. This will include the current moon phase, visibility of the naked eye planets, comets and meteor showers.
Q. What do like about the weather?
A. I enjoy the fact that it is never the same each day, there is always a slight variation. In the UK we are blessed in the sense that we are affected by many different weather setups, which are always interesting to observe!
